The Défenseure des droits reports a concerning rise in origin-based discrimination, with a 53% increase in calls to their discrimination hotline between May and June 2024, especially during the legislative elections. This increase is attributed to racist, antisemitic, and Islamophobic comments and behaviors, often targeting individuals with visible religious affiliations. The report suggests a shift from discrimination based on origin to that based on religion. The authority highlights the impact of political and media rhetoric and reduced state support in vulnerable areas.
